The Structure of Single Dental Implants
A dental implant is a titanium prosthetic tooth root that is surgically implanted in the jawbone to support a replacement tooth or bridge. A single dental implant has three main parts:
- Implant Fixture: This is a small titanium post that is surgically implanted into the jawbone to act as the root of the artificial tooth.
- Abutment: It is a connector that sits on top of the dental implant and rises above the gumline. Its function is to firmly hold the artificial tooth or crown in place, completing the structure of the single tooth implant.
- Crown: It is the visible part of the dental implant that resembles a natural tooth. It is usually made of ceramic or porcelain.
